The Jester Enduro bike is a thoroughbred 170 or 160mm race platform designed to perform in the demanding high levels of Enduro racing or the experienced weekend warrior.
Born from the need to efficiently navigate the challenging terrain of the modern Enduro race course. After learning much about riding dynamics in creating the Oisin trail platform, I have taken that knowledge and designed the Jester. It descends with confidence at high speeds and still provide an efficient pedalling platform for sprinting out of corners and the ride back up the hill.
Working with Ride Fox Australia, we've opted to use the Float X shock for the Jester. Dimensions are 210x55 (170) or 210x50 (160) with standard eyes at both ends. The front end is design around a 170 or 160mm single crown fork. Seat post diameter is 31.6mm.
The Jester is built in small runs. The sizing is in frame reach increments of 10mm starting at 450mm through to 520mm for the big birds. It is designed to be used with a bar/stem combo that places the hands close to inline with the steering axis and a steeper seat tube around the 77-degree mark. Using this style of layout keeps the saddle to bar reach of your current set up with the intention of running a longer frame reach and wheelbase. The wheels are in a better-balanced position when combined with a moderate head angle of 65 deg and a rear center matched to the front center. Chain stay length is from 435mm on the 450mm frames out to 455mm for the largest. It's a small change for each size but makes the world of difference to the balance of the bike. The days of raked out front ends and bad wheel flop, with a wandering front wheel when climbing, are over with this semi-forward geometry.
Built entirely from chrome-moly steel alloy tubing using Columbus and Promolloy 4130 tubes and 17/4 3D printed parts. It is built with a design efficiency that yields a tough frame with a weight that dips into the carbon territory and delivers that beautiful quiet ride that steel gives. A bike that communicates exactly what’s going on at the tyre contact patch. There is a reason steel has that fabled reputation and the Jester has utilised all of steels great attributes.
The rear brake hose is run externally on the top of the down tube and then under the swingarm. Facilitating complete swap outs and easy bleeds at the races. The gear housing runs beside the brake hose on the top of the down tube and then runs inside the swingarm with an 'Easy out' cable path. The dropper housing is in a guide tube in the down tube and up into the bottom of the seat tube. There are specially designed cable clips that keep the cables tidy and make removing any of the housings an easy affair with a 3mm allen key.
Of course, there are options of a custom size or a slight tweak of the geometry or if you want to go mullet with 27.5 rear. Even cable routing can be adjusted to the way you like to set your bike up. Just email or call and discuss what you are after. These options/changes do add a little bit to the final price.
Colours are anything from the standard Prizmatic Powder Coat range. For a tough finish we've opted for powder coat for these bikes with decals. Running decals allows for a freshen up of the bike over many seasons of use.
Getting a custom paint scheme can be done and can be in either powder coat or PPG Epoxy by Ben at Wallis Paints. Email through a description of what you'd like and we'll organise a quote.
We've come up will two build kits working with our partners at Shimano Australia, Ride Fox Australia and Xlr8 Wheels.
The Privateer is aimed at the rider wanting a thoroughbred race set up with Fox Factory suspension 38 fork and Float X shock, the high performing XT drive train and brakes and race spec wheels from 30-year wheel builder Josh Beck at Xlr8 Wheels.
The Warrior is dialled back a bit with 160mm travel, Fox Performance Elite suspension using the 36 fork and Float X shock, XT 12 speed drivetrain and brakes and Trail spec Xlr8 Wheels.
There is also the option to do a complete custom build kit. Email through you list of what you'd like to put together and we'll get back to you with what’s available and a quote.
