The long awaited XC platform from Devlin has arrived. The Demon has been a model that is in constant demand from the MTB community. It's finally realised and knocks it out of the park. The Demon is a platform born from the lessons of developing the Oisin and Jester models, employing a similar approach to design and construction.
The Demon is a race inspired XC bike with 120mm of rear travel and designed to have 120mm up front. Built primarily with Columbus tubing and combined with 3D printed parts to deliver a frame that defies conventional thoughts about steel frames. With shock, hardware and paint, the Demon hits the scales around the 2.9kg mark with final weight dependent on size.
Fillet brazing and slip joint construction is the joining method used on this model. Both Silver (slips joints) and Bronze (mitred joints) are used depending on the location in the frame structure. Both methods provide great strength and inherently manage stress better at the joints.
The Demon has proven to be an amazing bike. The 66.6deg head angle with a slightly longer front end yields a bike that is quite agile i but also provides great stability in (the) faster and rougher sections. As with all our models, we have adopted a semi forward geometry that uses a longer frame reach with a short stem and moderate head angles. The Demon is suggested to have a 45mm stem across all sizes, as it is the optimum length to realise the best layout of the platform. This forms the basis of the handling package for each customer.
The Demon has full custom geometry to achieve the correct fit and balanced ride for the individual. A professional fit is recommended with the Demon and works to give an efficient seated climbing position whilst also being balanced standing. I work with two very well respected fitters in SEQ but can also work with a fitter local to you.
Included is Fox Float SL 190x45 shock and Cane Creek headset. Other shock options can be used but will need to undergo a clearance check on frame and a slight modification to work and a fee associated. Stainless steel relief head tube logo, two bottle bosses on down tube, M6 stainless seat binder bolt and single solid colour PPG epoxy paint with ‘Devlin’ on downtube and logo in select places are standard.
Internal rear brake and gear lines are extra but can be incorporated.
Build spec is dependent on customers’ needs and wishes and can be quoted at time of initial inquiry. There are lots of options and even the scope to spec this as a 'down country' trail bike. Happy to work with you to create the perfect bike.
